Wheel thrown stoneware casserole was thrown on a potter's wheel by a Memphis, TN artist, Agnes Stark. I used a mat glaze that was fired in a gas kiln at high temperatures of over 2400 degrees Fahrenheit with a reduction atmosphere.
Stoneware fired at high temperatures are known to be very durable - with proper care, this piece can last for centuries. Casseroles and other serving pieces should be placed into a cold oven and cooked as directed. Do not put the hot casserole down on a wet surface, on the stove top burner, or under the broiler. Place a spoon into bowls or mugs when filling with boiling water. It is the sudden drastic change in temperature that sometimes causes damage that could be avoided.
*This dish is dishwasher safe and can be warmed in the oven up to around 350 degrees. It is not designed for stovetop use. This dish is approved for microwave use -- NOTE: extended microwave use (over many decades) on ceramic items with high power settings can cause the piece to become dry or brittle.
These are great serving pieces made with love and artistry. They serve as fantastic gifts for anniversaries, mother's day, weddings, graduations, house warmings, etc. Check out the other items in my shop to create a whole set!
